...mergulhando/...scuba diving

É claro que tomar chimarrão mergulhando não é no sentido literal... mas foi uma situação ímpar em nossa vida em razão das circunstâncias.

Of course, drink chimarrão scuba diving is not in the literal sense ... but it was an unique situation in our lives because of the circumstances.

Nos reencontramos em Florianópolis no verão e pensamos em aproveitar pra mergulhar, mas teríamos que fazer o chamado “batismo”. Como o fato de mergulhar já nos chamava a atenção em diversos lugares, passamos a achar desinteressante fazer o “batismo” todas as vezes. Além de que queríamos ter mais liberdade, poder “nadar” mesmo! Surgiu então a idéia de fazer um curso de mergulho.

We met in Florianopolis (Santa Catarina) during summer and we thought about take the chance to scuba dive, but we would have to make what is called "baptism." Due to the fact of scuba diving has drawn our attention in several places, we found not interesting to do the "baptism" at all times. Besides we wanted to have more freedom, let’s say we wanted to really "swim"! So it comes the idea of taking scuba diving classes.

Pesquisamos e encontramos algumas escolas de mergulho em Bombinhas-SC e em Florianópolis-SC. Depois de alguns contatos resolvemos encarar o curso para Open Water Diver - PADI.

We searched and found some diving schools in Bombinhas and Florianopolis. After some contacts decided to face the course for Open Water Diver - PADI.

O curso Open Water Diver é composto por cinco sessões, sendo que em cada uma tivemos aula teórica, prática em águas confinadas (piscina) e depois prática em águas abertas (no mar).

The Open Water Diver course consists of five sessions and at each one we had a theoretical class, confined water (pool) practice and then practice in open water (at sea).

Quando tínhamos feito todas as aulas teóricas e práticas em águas confinadas, estávamos prontas para encarar a prática no mar.

When we had done all the confined water classes, we were ready to face the practice at sea.

Precisávamos estar logo cedo de manhã no trapiche em Bombinhas para pegar o barco para navegar até o local de mergulho que foi no Estaleirinho, pois o tempo estava ruim e o mar muito agitado.

Needed to be early morning in the quayside in Bombinhas to take the boat to sail to the diving site which was in Estaleirinho due to the weather that was kind of bad and the sea a bit rough.

Chegando no trapiche o pessoal da escola começou a carregar os equipamentos para o barco e vimos um instrutor passando com uma cuia... já nos despertou interesse.

Reaching the quayside the school staff began loading the equipment into the boat and we saw a teacher holding a gourd... awaking our interest.

Partimos ao mar... e nada de chimarrão.

We sailed... and nothing about chimarrão.

No caminho ao Estaleirinho tivemos que montar e checar nosso equipamento... colete estabilizador, regulador, cilindro. Quando estava tudo montado, era hora de colocar as “roupas úmidas”, que são as roupas de neoprene como as que os surfistas usam. Nossa, quanto amadorismo para colocar aqueles longos macacões que nos deixava embutidas e de acordo com uma amiga, parecendo snorkels gigantes... aqueles do desenho animado, tipo os smurfs...

On the way to Estaleirinho we had to assemble and check our equipment ... stabilizer vest, regulator, cylinder. When everything was assembled, it was time to put the "wet clothes" which are neoprene clothes like that surfers use. Wow, how amateurism to put those long overalls that left us looking like fitted, like giants snorkels, those of the cartoon, like the smurfs... as said a friend.

Chegamos no Estaleirinho e colocamos o que ainda faltava... cinto de lastro (chumbo mesmo e são muito importantes esse quilos a mais), nadadeiras, snorkel e óculos (essencial). Quando estávamos prontas, fomos para a popa do barco: “passo de gigante” e água!!!!! Lá fomos nós tentar mergulhar... Acham que é fácil afundar? Mesmo com todo o equipamento... não é bem assim... tudo é um aprendizado. E lá fomos nós com nosso instrutor Juan para nossa estreia no fundo do mar!

We arrived at Estaleirinho and put what was still missing ... weight belt (real lead and is very important that extra pounds), paddles, snorkel and goggles (essential). When we were ready, we went to the aft part of the boat, "giant step" and water!!!!! There we were, trying to dive... Do you think it's easy to sink? Even with all the equipment ... is not... everything is a learning process. And we went off with our instructor Juan for our debut under the sea water!

Retornamos ao ponto de partida, fizemos nossas primeiras “provas sub” e subimos ao barco depois de uns 40 minutos para a pausa obrigatória em superfície.

We return to the starting point, we made our first "under water tests” and climbed to the boat after about 40 minutes to an obligatory break in surface.

Era a hora do lanche... e nada do chima.

It was time for snacks... and still nothing about chimarrão.

De repente avistamos os instrutores (com os quais não tínhamos tido contato ainda) se preparando pra tomar um chima embaixo d´água, foi cadeira de praia, guarda-sol, cuia e bomba, tudo pra montar o cenário perfeito ao lado dos peixinhos. Sem dúvidas, vestimos nosso equipamento e antes da próxima lição prática, demos um jeitinho de participar dessa roda!

Suddenly we saw the teachers (with whom we had not had contact yet) getting ready to take a chimarrão underwater, it was chair, beach umbrella, gourd and pipe, everything being thrown in the water, all for the perfect sight alongside the fish. With no doubt, we took our equipment and before the next practice lesson, we have a knack to participate in this chimarrão circle!

Nosso herói... o astronauta Abraão... até trocou umas palavrinhas com a gente e fomos ao nosso chima-sub! Ele registrou nosso momento muito especial!

Our hero ... the astronaut Abraao... that even exchanged a few words with us and we went to our chima-sub! He recorded our very special moment!

Logo tivemos que voltar a nossa prática e mais provas, mas valeu! Foi um momento marcante no nosso dia inesquecível, já que era o nosso primeiro dia de mergulho ao fundo do mar.

Soon we had to return to our practice and more tests, but thanks! It was a remarkable moment in our unforgettable day, as was our first day of scuba diving.

Concluímos o curso com mais um dia de mar na ilha do Arvoredo e depois tivemos a prova escrita! Nosso curso nos permite mergulhar a até 18m de profundidade, sempre em dupla ou com instrutor.

We conclude the course with another day on the Ilha do Arvoredo and then we had the written test! Our course allows us to dive up to 18m deep, always in pairs or with an instructor.

Tivemos então mais um dia mergulho que foi a nossa estréia solo (sem instrutor) e sem precisar fazer os exercícios-sub. Nesse dia levamos nosso chimarrão para a viagem até o ponto de mergulho!

We then had one more day plunge that was our debut solo (no instructor) and without having to do the sub-exercises. That day we took our chimarrão for the journey to the diving point! 

Embaixo dágua, fomos controlando o nosso tempo e tirando muitas fotos... é claro, afinal estávamos no Arvoredo! Seguimos as orientações que havíamos recebido do instrutor... seguir inicialmente do local onde estava a embarcação para a direita... onde ficaríamos com as pedras na nossa esquerda.

Under water, we were managing our time and taking many photos ... of course, because we were in the Arvoredo, an amazing place, one of the best scuba diving sites in Brazil! We follow the guidelines that we had received from the instructor ... initially below the site where the boat was on the right ... where we could get the rocks on our left.

Podíamos ir até encontrar as duas pedras com uma fenda e depois retornaríamos até a embarcação. Fizemos tudo certo e na volta encontramos a âncora da nossa embarcação. Tiramos várias fotos por alí, pois tinha uma estrela-do-mar ao lado da âncora. Achamos que poderíamos voltar ao barco, nos comunicamos pelos sinais que havíamos aprendido e fomos orgulhosas! Depois da subida gradativa a superfície, olhamos para o barco e... espanto!!! Não era o nosso! Erramos o local que o barco estava “estacionado”... Enfim, tivemos que voltar ao fundo do mar e fomos em direção ao nosso barco! Depois de ter errado o endereço, chegamos bem em nosso destino para a pausa obrigatória com um chima esperando!

We could go until find the two stones with one slot and then would return to the boat. We did everything right and turning back we found the anchor of the ship. We took many pictures over there, because a star-fish was beside the anchor. We thought we could go back to the boat, we communicate by signs that we had learned and we were proud! After a gradual ascent to the surface, look for the boat and... surprise! It was not ours! We wandered the place that the boat was "parked" ... At the end we had to return to the sea floor and headed to our boat! After we have mistaken the address we arrived well at our destination to another obligatory break at the surface and at this time with a chimarrão waiting for us!



Fizemos o segundo mergulho do dia! Ficamos muito felizes e orgulhosas e voltamos da Reserva do Arvoredo até Bombinhas tomando um chima, juntamente com o pessoal do barco e com os mergulhadores hermanos... fazendo uma grande roda de chimarrão!

We did the second plunge of the day! We are very happy and proud and we return from the Arvoredo Reserve to Bombinhas taking a chimarrão, along with staff of the boat and fellow scuba divers... making a big chimarrão circle!
